It’s hard for me to talk about myself, but I can say that the words funny, silly, imaginative, creative, and even a little bit crazy, have all been used to describe me throughout my life. I love adventure, as well as problem and puzzle solving. Tell me I can’t, and you can bet I’ll give it good try!
Writing always came easy for me. I’ve written short stories and poetry for as long as I can remember. And writing creatively opened a few doors for me throughout my career.
Now retired and the grandmother of seven, I find, as I listen to children of all ages, that my own imagination, silliness, and creativity give me unique insight in to their perspectives on life. They see things differently than adults, unburdened by life’s twists and turns; burdens adults often let get in the way of seeing hopes and dreams.
I see the world through the children’s eyes, and what an adventure it can be if we just listen!
I hope you’ll follow along with me here. Discover what I’ve written, what I’m doing next, other authors I follow and their works. You just might find something thought-provoking, fun, and interesting.
Things Most Folks Don’t Know About Elizabeth
- Although I’ve always dabbled in putting pen to paper, I didn’t always want to be a published writer! I’ve always had a love for reading, but it took me a long time to write a story of my own. My first attempts were of questionable quality, to say the least. One, I started in junior high, was really terrible, and I never finished it.
- Before I retired, I exercised my writing skills as a government analyst. I’ve analyzed things from budgets to crime statistics to survey responses, and everything in between. I’ve written Legislative Proposals and amendments, menu descriptions for a 5-star hotel, and even song lyrics.
- As a kid I read stories like The Hardy Boys Mysteries (that’s dating myself); Charlotte’s Web; and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, but never really had a favorite author. As an adult the books I love are any of the “Disc World” stories by Terry Pratchett; Bobs Saucer Repair, by Jerry Boyd; and one of my recent favorites, “The Christmas Bookshop, by Jenny Colgan. As an author of children’s books, I find myself drawn to authors such as Tom Steephen (Hannah and the Bug Bear Prince), Kevin Henkes (Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse), and Jordan Scott (I Talk Like A River). All very different styles of writing, with diverse messages, but all thoroughly compelling and enjoyable.
- I have a bazillion recipes but rarely use them. A little of this, a little of that, and BOOM dinner! I do use recipes for baking, though. My favorites being scones, muffins, and cookies!
- I never really liked school, but got good grades. Go figure. And I hated homework!
- I have a serious procrastination problem. Tomorrow is the best time saving device ever created!
- My worst fear is fire. Uncontrolled fire. But I love campfires and fireplaces!
- Oh, I also fear bugs. Well, not really fear, but I really, really don’t like them. I’ve been known to go ballistic when a bee comes near!
- My greatest realized-dream would be for my words to mean something to you and to those around you. I am inspired by nature, adventure, imagination, and creative thinking, and I hope that through my poetry and stories I can inspire you and those you love.
